Cantua Creek Road Race

If I did not know this was a race I would have thought this was a team ride. The course is an out and back 26 miles with 2 laps. Mostly flat and ends on a with a 1Km climb at the end of the lap. The first lap had nothing going on (boring). 18 miles into the race my odometer stopped working (magnet slid). Starting the second lap I got bunched up at the turn around and a rider jumped out by himself and road with a nice gap in front of the pack for a few miles coming out of the downhill I was feeling good so I jumped up to join him. We had a breakaway of 4 people with a 30 Meter gap but no one wanted to work so when I was at the front I just sat up and dropped down to about 16-17 Mph without any challenge for the next 5 miles or so (boring). After the turn around heading towards the home stretch the pace started picking up but no one broke away until the last Km n the last hill. Though I felt good I did not eat enough for the final burst of energy for the last hill. I finished at the back of the front pack and placed 11th.
